The backlog of Dols assessments and approvals is indicative of the various Local Authority's engagement with protective roles within Social Care, Health and Education. In a previous job, I was supervised by managers without any training in Dols or MCA and I had to ring around for advice and guidance. The role of BIA competed with supervision of staff, managing duty and a large Safeguarding caseload. There seemed an inability in the LA to prioritise and a culture of infighting between senior managers was evident. Clients suffered, but this was did not appear to be a concern.
