The transition from childhood to adulthood presents significant legal, procedural, and operational challenges for social care organisations and statutory partnerships. Professionals working across the 0–25 age range must manage overlapping legislative frameworks, changing statutory duties, differing safeguarding thresholds, and complex funding arrangements between children's services, adult services, and health.
This three-day programme provides an in-depth examination of the legal mechanics governing transitional safeguarding. It covers children’s legislation, adult legislation, mental capacity, human rights, and health funding interfaces.
The primary objective is to equip practitioners and managers with the knowledge required to make legally defensible, rights-based decisions that prevent young people from falling into support gaps at key transition milestones.

- Execute Defensible Decision-Making: Produce legally sound assessment records, capacity assessments, and risk management plans that withstand SAR, judicial review, and Court of Protection scrutiny.
- Apply Updated Case Law: Incorporate post-AGNI developments regarding capacity, consent, and liberty restrictions into day-to-day practice.
- Resolve Funding Friction: Identify procedural pathways to resolve disputes between NHS Children’s Continuing Care, Adult CHC, and social care funding.
- Manage Court Interfaces: Identify appropriate court routes (Family Court, Court of Protection, or High Court Inherent Jurisdiction) based on the young person's age, capacity, and legal status.
- Reduce Transition Gaps: Ensure care leavers and young people with complex needs maintain continuous, lawful support across service boundaries.
