Course Outline:

This course is designed for those who may have internal investigation responsibility, but for whom conducting investigations is not their main role e.g. line managers, some HR professionals. For more in depth training and accreditation, please see the Advanced Professional Certificate in Investigative Practice.

Using internal investigation scenarios, his course covers the core principles of conducting an internal investigation, including planning the investigation, collecting evidence, interviewing, consideration of safeguarding and whistleblowing issues, and pulling all the information together into a clear and logical investigation report. The course is designed to ensure that investigations are impartial, transparent, and legally compliant.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the legal framework for internal investigations and the role of the investigator
  • Develop and apply investigation plans from initiation to closure
  • Distinguish between different types of evidence and evaluate their reliability, credibility, and weight
  • Plan and conduct investigative interviews using the PEACE model to gather accurate and reliable information, and plan and conduct trauma-informed interviewing where required
  • Consider safeguarding requirements and manage whistleblowing issues
  • Evaluate evidence and produce clear, logical, and evidence-based investigation reports, including findings and recommendations.
