Perpetrators of domestic abuse now face tougher sanctions for their actions, and it is crucial that those in a support role understand the detail of the new proposals as well as the differences in court procedure in the criminal and family courts.

Key Learning Outcomes

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Identify the current relevant legal framework as well as the new legislative changes in force under the Domestic Abuse Act 2021.
  • Distinguish between the applications in the criminal and family courts.
  • Identify what constitutes best evidence to enable a court to make ‘findings of fact’.
  • Assist in presenting and preparing evidence.
  • Identify practical application, procedure and remedies in relation to all areas of domestic abuse including exclusion of perpetrators.
  • Identify breaches and instigate enforcement.
  • Understand private law/contact/children and domestic abuse.
  • Understand changes to police powers and duties on local authorities.
