Court of Protection: Practitioner’s Guide COPDOL

Course Outline:

This course is designed to give you an in depth knowledge of the role of the Court of Protection, with an explanation of the general powers of the Court and the range of applications that can be made, and the role of the Professional in the court process. 

The afternoon will provide an opportunity, through case studies, to focus through the life of two specific application routes in the Court of Protection (client to choose 2 of 4 options available) by tracing the process from beginning to end. 

A – Personal Welfare Application 

B – Finance and Property Application

C – COP DOL under Section 16 (2) (a) – streamlined route (COPDOL11 route)

D – Application for Appeal to DOLS Authorisation – Section 21A

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe the role and jurisdiction of the Court of Protection
  • Identify the range of applications that can be made to the Court of Protection and the powers of the Court using case study analysis
  • Explain the application process routes A – D from end to end
  • Explain the role of the professional in the Court of Protection
  • Consider the importance of the participation of the person in proceedings
  • Explore the evidential requirements of the Court 
  • Use the knowledge gained during the course and apply it when considering applications to the Court of Protection
