Course Outline:
This course is designed to equip investigators with the knowledge and skills to conduct interviews with suspects, victims or witnesses in serious and complex investigations.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- Understanding the law and procedures relevant to a range of interviews
- Considering the different types of interview and the appropriate interviewing models
- Confidence in undertaking Cognitive Interviews to best practice standards
- Effectively plan and prepare for different types of interview including who to interview and in what order to interview an interviewee and how to co-ordinate evidence gained
- Handling inconsistencies in the account given by the interviewee and other available evidence and how to challenge professionally
- Understand and effectively use special warnings in an interview
- Maximising the impact of disclosing evidence, before and during the interview
- Dealing effectively with solicitors, silences and selective answering
- Identifying and managing different forms of interviewee resistance
- Balancing their investigative role and powers with the individual's rights
- Extensive role play to enhance skill
