The House of Commons published its third report on the cost of motor insurance today. This report focuses on the impact of whiplash claims.

View the full report here on the parliament website.

This report calls for a random audit of medical reports and ask the government to consider whether existing regulatory bodies such as the General Medical Council could have a role in auditing reports and receiving and dealing with complaints about the quality of reports (Paragraph 39).

It is clear that training and regulation is required to ensure that all personal injury reports are of the required standard. Bond Solon and Cardiff University Law School have recently developed an independent, university assessed certificate - the Cardiff University Law School Medico-Legal Foundation Certificate – which increasingly instructing parties and medical reporting agencies are asking their panels to undertake.
