Many experts must be thinking is it worth doing expert witness work as the potential consequences of giving evidence that is found wanting can be catastrophic.

Dr Waney Squier was struck off the GMC register for her conduct as an expert witness in shaken baby cases.

However, on Thursday 3rd November 2016, Waney Squier won the high court appeal battle when a judge cleared her of dishonesty and has had her licence reinstated.

Clive Stafford Smith, leading Human Right Lawyer and a prominent critic of the science behind shaken-baby syndrome, commented on this decision at the Annual Bond Solon Expert Witness conference on Friday 4 November.

Smith clearly stated that the High Court decision to continue Dr Waney Squier’s ban from giving medical evidence would have serious consequences for all experts.
