Midwifery plays a particular role in improving community, maternal and neonatal health. It is essential that midwives carry out their roles to best practice standards. Bond Solon, in association with The Royal College of Midwives, has designed specific courses for midwives aimed to assist midwives in their day-to-day role.
Record Keeping for Midwives
Record keeping in midwifery care is paramount. This course has been designed to ensure best practice in record-keeping and to ensure the records provide an accurate and contemporaneous account of the treatment, care and support of the patient.
Consent for Examination or Treatment for Midwives
This course has been designed to equip midwives with the knowledge and ability to ensure that patients in their care are able to give their informed consent, specifically around issues of capacity and choice.
Clinical Responsibility for Midwives
This course has been designed to equip midwives with the knowledge and skills to deal with issues of clinical responsibility safely, lawfully and to best practice standards.
Confidentiality, Access to Records and Data Protection for Midwives
All midwives have to comply with the law, best practice and professional standards. This course has been designed to ensure midwives are up to date on relevant legislation, case law and best practice.
Excellence in Statement and Report Writing for Midwives
Midwives who are required to produce statements or reports may find them scrutinised in complaints procedures, inquiries, disciplinary professional or regulatory proceeding or the courts. This course has been designed to equip midwives with the necessary knowledge and skills to produce statements or reports to best practice standards.
Coroner’s Court Training for Midwives
Giving evidence at an Inquest can be a daunting task. This course has been designed to ensure that midwives have the support, knowledge and confidence to be able to give evidence at a Coroner’s Court accurately and effectively.
Witness Skills for Midwives
Giving evidence is a stressful and challenging process, made worse where there is a lack of knowledge or experience. This course has been designed to enable midwives to be able to give evidence effectively and with confidence, whether it be as part of complaint, disciplinary, professional or regulatory proceedings, or in court.
Several of these issues will be discussed at the second Bond Solon / RCM Legal Birth Conference, which will take place on Friday 9 July 2010.
