  Workshop 5 - Clinical Responsibility - the Legal Perspective

Clinical Responsibility - a practical introduction led by a specialist Health Services Lawyer, which looks at the duty of care owed by health professionals to their patients and clients and distinguishes between negligence and error of judgement. Strategies to minimise the risk of litigation will be explored to help practitioners practice safely and lawfully, without resorting to defensive practice. The sessions are interactive and extensively illustrated by case studies and decided cases.

Health professionals are given insight into their accountability to society, the patient or client, their employer and their profession and how to resolve the tension inherent in competing expectations. The day includes information on the basic law of negligence, risk management and governance.
