  Workshop 2 - Consent for Examination or Treatment

In today's NHS, with its emphasis on the patient’s right of autonomy, self-determination and working in partnership with health professionals, a comprehensive understanding of consent is now an essential requirement for all health professionals. This one day course will give participants an introduction to the key principles and philosophy underpinning consent. Through practical examples and trainer-led discussion, delegates will learn to apply these principles to difficult and sensitive situations. Guidance will be given on how to assess competence and how to deal with situations where the patient is unable to give effective consent. A comprehensive workbook with the Department of Health and Judicial guidance is provided.
